Apple unleashed Snow Leopard alias Mac OS X 10.6
August 28, 2009 — Apple Inc. (www.apple.com) today released its latest operating system: Mac OS X Version 10.6 (Client and Server), also known by its code name, Snow Leopard.And Loctory once again played a crucial role in creating the German version.
We spent over 2,500 hours for software and engineering, more than 500,000 words translating for software, help files, and documentation. Like all operating systems, the new processes, tools, and tasks posed new challenges for Loctory and its team of specialists. Inspired by this new OS‘s code name, we have decided to devote ourselves to the eponymous endangered species. In addition to a financial donation, Loctory will provide the non-profit organization Snow Leopard Trust (www.snowleopard.org) with pro bono translations of its website, brochures, and other texts.Founded by Helen Freeman in 1981, the Snow Leopard Trust is the oldest and largest organization exclusively devoted to protecting the snow leopard and its habitats in 12 Central Asian countries. This charitable organization is based in Seattle, Washington.
Estimates of the snow leopard‘s worldwide population range from 4,000 to 7,500. This figure includes animals living and being bred in zoos.
